Staff Reporter People from all walks of life in Dakshin Mandia village under Chhagalnaiya upazila of Feni have united to protect the youth from the grasp of drugs and build a drug-free society. Under the initiative of the united villagers and with the overall cooperation of Chhagalnaiya Model Police Station, a massive anti-drug rally and civic discussion were held in the area recently. On Friday afternoon, an awareness rally paraded through the main roads of the village. Carrying banners and festoons, the entire area echoed with slogans such as "Say No to Drugs" and "Build a Drug-Free Society." After traversing key routes, the rally converged into a protest meeting at the local Eidgah ground. Presided over by former member of the district BNP, Nurul Absar Salim, the meeting was addressed by the Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Chhagalnaiya Model Police Station, Mohammad Abu Taher, as the chief guest. In his address, the chief guest said, "Drugs do not merely ruin an individual; they gradually destroy an entire family and society. Along with legal measures by the police, a strong social movement is imperative to prevent drug abuse." He warned that no leniency would be shown to drug dealers and abusers. Speakers at the rally stressed a 'zero tolerance' policy against drugs. They emphasized that eradicating drugs completely requires more than just relying on the administration; local public representatives, teachers, guardians, and conscious youth must build a united resistance. Furthermore, they urged the community to socially boycott identified drug dealers and users. With spontaneous participation from people of various professions, the gathering transformed into an inspiring social awareness movement. Local political leaders, teachers, students, civil society representatives, and local youths attended the program.
