Staff Reporter. A Deputy Assistant Director (DAD) of the Special Response Battalion (SRB) was killed after being struck by a reckless lorry while performing duty on the Dhaka-Chattogram highway in Feni. The victim was identified as Md. Alamgir Hossain, 55, son of the late Nur Uddin Ahmed from Monakia village in Kendua Upazila, Netrokona. The fatal accident occurred around 12:37 AM on Saturday night in front of the Beacon Model College Road, adjacent to the Star Line Filling Station in the Fatehpur area along the highway. Alamgir, a father of five, was a Warrant Officer in the Bangladesh Army. He joined the elite Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) on April 30 last year and assumed charge as a DAD at the Feni SRB-7 camp on May 17 this year. According to eyewitnesses and SRB sources, Alamgir was stationed at a highway checkpoint alongside a 15 to 16-member team at midnight. A Chattogram-bound fast-moving lorry from Dhaka lost control and violently hit him while he was standing by the roadside. His colleagues rushed him to Feni General Hospital, where the attending doctor declared him dead at around 1:00 AM. Dr. Saifur Rahman, a physician at the emergency department, stated that Alamgir had passed away before reaching the hospital, having sustained severe crush injuries from the waist down. The body has been kept in the hospital morgue for an autopsy. Expressing deep grief over the tragic incident, Squadron Leader Mizanur Rahman, Company Commander of Feni SRB-7, said, "I was also present at the checkpoint during the incident. Despite getting him to the hospital as quickly as possible, we could not save him." Aminul Islam, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Feni Model Police Station, confirmed that the offending lorry has been seized. The truck driver, Sajeeb, 30, was injured in the crash and is currently receiving treatment under SRB custody. The OC added that since the accident took place on a highway, further legal action will be handled by the Highway Police.
