Chattogram District is being brought under a strict security blanket to ensure the upcoming Sharadiya Durga Puja is celebrated in a peaceful, safe, and festive atmosphere. Citizens have been urged to remain on high alert against rumors, misinformation, and provocative activities during the festival. Moreover, the public has been requested to assist law enforcement agencies immediately by reporting any untoward incidents.
Chittagong District Superintendent of Police (SP) Md. Masud Alam, BPM, issued these warnings during a special view-exchange meeting held on Sunday (October 4) morning at the Civic Center in Chittagong District Police Lines. The meeting was attended by top leaders of the Puja Udjapan Parishad from all 17 police stations in the district.
A series of key security directives were issued at the meeting to ensure comprehensive safety across all worship venues (mandaps). Instructions were given to install functional CCTV cameras at every mandap, ensure adequate lighting, arrange backup power sources, deploy dedicated volunteers, and strengthen fire safety measures.
Special emphasis was placed on the safety and security of women and children visiting the venues. Mandap authorities were instructed to quickly address any issues faced by female devotees and to establish designated assistance setups for children.
To maintain religious harmony and social peaceful coexistence, the SP advised forming 'Harmony Committees' in every locality, comprising local representatives, community leaders from various faiths, and members of law enforcement. Additionally, instructions were given to strictly comply with designated sound limits and time schedules for loudspeakers. Organizers were also requested to maintain interfaith sensitivity and exercise heightened care during the times of Azan and prayers at adjacent mosques.
The meeting was attended by Chittagong District Commandant of Ansar & VDP Md. Sefaful Hossain, senior district police officials, Officers-in-Charge (OCs) of 17 police stations, and central as well as local leaders of the Puja Udjapan Parishad.
