A youth named Rakib Hossain (19), who was studying at a medical coaching center in Tangail, Dhaka, was allegedly murdered and his body brought to Balapara village in Chhatnai Union of Dimla upazila in Nilphamari and buried there. A young man named Mamun Rahman (23) has been accused in the incident. After returning to Dhaka, he allegedly used artificial intelligence (AI) technology to create a video showing Rakib alive and demanded ransom from his family.
On Tuesday (October 6) at noon, an investigation team from Dhaka went to Balapara village in Chhatnai Union of Dimla and recovered Rakib’s body from the burial site based on information provided by Mamun.
According to local residents and police sources, Rakib and Mamun became acquainted about a month ago. Later, a dispute arose between them over an issue. It is initially believed that Rakib was killed as a result of this dispute.
It is alleged that after the murder, Mamun brought Rakib’s body to Balapara village in Chhatnai Union of Dimla, his ancestral home, with the intention of concealing it. He buried the body in a betel nut orchard there and then returned to Dhaka.
Later, it was learned that money was taken after demanding ransom from Rakib’s family in Dhaka. When Rakib’s family filed a complaint with the police, an investigation began.
At one point, Mamun was arrested from the Shukrabad area of Dhaka. Based on information provided by Mamun during police interrogation, the investigation team learned that Rakib’s body had been buried in Dimla. Later, a team from Dhaka came to Dimla and recovered the body from the location shown by Mamun.
Meanwhile, it is alleged that a video was created using artificial intelligence (AI) technology to give the impression that Rakib was alive. It is further alleged that a large amount of money was demanded from Rakib’s family as ransom by showing them the video.
Dimla Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Ashraful Islam said that the body had been recovered. Further legal procedures would be completed after the autopsy. Arrested Mamun would be handed over to the investigation team from Dhaka.
