The lock on the Vice-Chancellor's office at Rajshahi Medical University (RMU) has been cut open. The lock was removed around 12:15 PM on Thursday (October 8) in the presence of Executive Magistrate Md. Arif Hossain. Subsequently, the investigating officer of the case collected necessary evidence from the room.
Earlier, leaders and activists of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) brought the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Jawadul Haq, from his residence in Upashahar to the university's temporary campus.
Present at the time were Rajshahi City BNP Vice President Zainal Abedin Shibly, City Jubo Dal Convener Md. Shariful Islam Joni, Volunteer Dal General Secretary Asaduzzaman Joni, former Chhatra Dal President Akbar Ali Jacky, General Secretary Emdadul Haq Limon, Senior Vice President Md. Abir, alongside other leaders and activists.
Executive Magistrate Md. Arif Hossain stated, "An outsider had locked the room. The lock was broken, and the room was handed over to the investigating officer. The law and order situation at the site is currently normal."
Jubo Dal Convener Shariful Islam Joni mentioned that, following central directives from the BNP and instructions from Rajshahi City BNP President Mamunur Rashid and General Secretary Mahfuzur Rahman Ritun, they respectfully escorted the Vice-Chancellor from his house to the university.
He added, "The BNP and its associate organizations do not tolerate any form of extortion, grabbing, or terrorist activities. If any party leader or activist is found involved in that untoward incident, organizational action will be taken against them."
Last Tuesday (October 6), allegations surfaced that Vice-Chancellor Professor Jawadul Haq was forcibly coerced into signing a document at the temporary RMU office. According to the VC, he was not allowed to read the document and was forced to sign out of fear of assault. He was subsequently driven out of the office.
A case was filed against 50 to 60 unidentified individuals regarding the incident. Police have arrested three people so far, with the latest arrestees identified as Md. Ali Akbar Hossain and Md. Delowar Hossain.
Police stated that several others involved have been identified by analyzing video footage and photographs of the incident.
University Section Officer Md. Najmul Hossain mentioned that Land Minister Md. Mijanur Rahman Minu would escort the Vice-Chancellor to his office on Thursday evening, after which the VC is scheduled to address the media.
Meanwhile, leaders from Jamaat-e-Islami, Chhatra Dal, Jubo Dal, and Ulema Dal visited the area starting in the morning to maintain a normal atmosphere on campus.
