Authorities move to ease traffic congestion and ensure smooth movement of pedestrians

CHANDINA, CUMILLA: The Chandina Upazila Administration has launched a drive against illegal occupation of footpaths and unauthorised parking in the upazila to ease traffic congestion and ensure the free movement of pedestrians.
The drive was conducted on Thursday (October 8) at several important and busy points of Chandina. During the operation, people occupying footpaths for commercial purposes and vehicles parked illegally on roads were instructed to remove their belongings and vehicles.
The administration also warned that legal action would be taken against anyone who continues to occupy public footpaths or park vehicles illegally on roads, causing obstruction to pedestrians and traffic.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Chandina Police Station Md Nuruzzaman was present during the operation and performed his duties to maintain law and order and assist the administration in carrying out the drive.
Police personnel were deployed at the operation sites to maintain order and prevent any disruption during the eviction campaign.
Local residents welcomed the initiative, saying that footpath encroachment and illegal parking have long been contributing to traffic congestion in Chandina. In many areas, pedestrians are forced to walk on busy roads when footpaths are occupied by shops, goods and illegally parked vehicles.
They urged the authorities to continue such drives regularly and ensure that the cleared footpaths are not occupied again.
The upazila administration said the campaign is part of its efforts to restore discipline on roads, reduce traffic congestion and ensure safe and uninterrupted movement for pedestrians.
Authorities further warned that strict action would be taken against individuals or businesses found occupying public footpaths or creating obstacles on roads through unauthorised parking.
The initiative is expected to improve traffic management and bring greater convenience and safety to pedestrians and motorists in Chandina.
