Nazmul Haque Nahid, Atrai (Naogaon) Correspondent. Ferdous Daftari, a day laborer in Atrai, Naogaon, has been left destitute following a devastating fire. Nothing remains for his family other than the clothes they were wearing. The incident occurred around 9 PM on Thursday (October 8) in Uttar Bil Durgapara village under the No. 8 Hatkalupara Union. The affected Ferdous is the son of Abdur Rashid Daftari from the same village. According to local sources, Ferdous had locked his house and gone to work in the fields on Wednesday evening. Upon returning home after work, he found his house engulfed in raging flames. Neighbors were already making desperate attempts to extinguish the fire. Although the fire was eventually brought under control, everything had already been destroyed. The house's corrugated iron roof, a television, cooking utensils, stored paddy and rice, 20,000 taka in cash, and all furniture were reduced to ashes. Speaking in an emotional voice, Ferdous said, "I couldn't save anything other than the clothes I am wearing. There isn't even a handful of rice left to cook a meal tonight." He stated that he suffered a loss of approximately four lakh taka due to the fire. However, he could not explain how the fire started. He added that, owning no land of his own, he had been struggling to support his family through day labor. Given the situation, he has made an earnest appeal for government humanitarian assistance to secure a roof over his head. Regarding the matter, Atrai Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Md. Moniruzzaman stated that the Upazila administration has immediately provided the affected family with two bundles of corrugated iron sheets, 6,000 taka in cash, and some dry food. Meanwhile, Atrai Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md. Mahabub Alam stated that no written complaint regarding the incident has been received so far. Legal action will be taken subject to investigation upon receipt of a complaint.
