Allegations have been raised about the circulation of objectionable and defamatory photocards on social media Facebook using photos of two assistant teachers of Sherpur Pilot Girls High School in Bogura. In this incident, the headmaster of the school, Md. Abu Sayeed Sheikh, has expressed anger and concern. Besides, he held a press conference demanding a proper investigation into the incident and legal action against those involved.
In a press conference held on Monday (October 12), the headmaster alleged that a photocard was created and circulated from two Facebook IDs named 'ANAS AKANDA' and 'Shafiq Tanvir' using photos of the school's assistant teachers. The circulated photocard read, "A 50-year-old teacher eloped with a 40-year-old female teacher." He came to know about the matter through people on October 8 and 10. He claims that the photocard has also spread to the mobile phones of various people. This has created fear of damaging the honor and dignity of the concerned teachers, other teachers of the school and the institution.
The headmaster further said that they do not know who and for what purpose created and circulated such photocards. However, such propaganda has created an embarrassing situation for the personal and professional dignity of the concerned teachers. There is also a fear that the reputation of a traditional educational institution will be damaged.
It is inappropriate to circulate unverified, misleading or defamatory statements on social media using someone's photo. Before publishing any information or photo, it is necessary to consider its authenticity, relevance and the social dignity of the person concerned.
A general diary (GD) has been filed at Sherpur Police Station in this incident. The concerned authorities have been asked to investigate to identify the source of the circulated photocard, the motive behind it, and the persons involved in its creation and circulation. At the same time, the photocard has been called to be removed, such propaganda to be stopped in the future, and if the truth of the complaint is proven, action to be taken against those involved according to the prevailing law. At that time, other teachers and students were present at the press conference.
