Masum Hawlader, Bagerhat. The Coast Guard has rescued four fishermen who were held hostage by the notorious robber Samrat Bahini of the Sundarbans. Coast Guard Media Officer Lieutenant Commander Sabbir Alam Sujan informed this on Monday (October 12) morning. Under the direction of the present government, two special operations named "Operation Restore Peace in Sundarbans" and "Operation Mangrove Shield" are being conducted under the leadership of Bangladesh Coast Guard with the aim of eliminating all active bandit groups in the Sundarbans and ensuring security in the coastal region. As a continuation of this, based on secret information, it was learned that the notorious robber Samrat Bahini of the Sundarbans is located in the area adjacent to the Urbania canal of the Shipsa river of the Sundarbans under Dacope Thana of Khulna. Based on the information received, a special operation was conducted in the said area by Coast Guard Outpost Nalian at 2 pm yesterday (October 11). During the operation, 4 fishermen who were held hostage by the robbers were rescued from the said area. At that time, sensing the presence of the Coast Guard, the robbers left the hostages and fled into the forest, so no one could be arrested. During preliminary interrogation, it was learned that when they went to catch fish and crabs in the Sundarbans on October 10, members of Samrat Bahini took them away and held them hostage and tortured them for ransom. The rescued fishermen Moinur (50), Badsha Ghazi (39), Sujan Hossain (34) and Imamul Mallick (22) are all residents of Paikgachha Thana of Khulna district. The process of handing over the rescued fishermen to their families is underway. We are hopeful that it will be possible to make the Sundarbans completely free of robbers through the government's directives, everyone's cooperation and coordinated efforts of other law enforcement agencies.
