Mohinul Islam Sujon, Crime Reporter. An ambulance driver named Naim Islam (25) has been detained over allegations of insulting and assaulting a doctor at Nilphamari 250-Bed General Hospital. In protest against the assault on the doctor, the hospital's doctors are observing a work stoppage and holding a human chain. The human chain was held at Chowrangi Intersection in the town at 11:00 am on Monday (October 12). The hospital's intern doctors have been observing a work stoppage since the morning. According to hospital authorities, around noon yesterday, private ambulance driver Naim came to the hospital's Radiology and Imaging Department to collect an ultrasonography report. After arriving, he started shouting and creating disorder because there was a delay in handing over the report. At that time, Dr. Rathindranath Mondal, Associate Professor of the Radiology and Imaging Department, who was on duty there, tried to stop him. Naim became furious, verbally abused the doctor in obscene language, and eventually began assaulting him. Hearing the doctor's cries, hospital security personnel rushed to the spot and detained Naim. He was later handed over to Sadar Police Station. In protest against the incident, the hospital's intern doctors have been observing a work stoppage since this morning. Later, at around 11:00 am, they held a human chain at Chowrangi Intersection in the town. The speakers said, "We have been providing services to people for a long time. Yesterday, one of our doctors was attacked and beaten. We demand exemplary punishment for the person involved in this incident." The speakers also demanded the immediate enactment of a Health Protection Act. Doctors, intern doctors, and staff of the hospital were present at the human chain. Regarding the matter, Abdullah Hel Mafi, Superintendent of Nilphamari 250-Bed General Hospital, said that only the intern doctors were observing the work stoppage to ensure that treatment for patients arriving at the hospital continued normally. Regarding the matter, Zillur Rahman, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Nilphamari Sadar Police Station, said that a young man had been detained yesterday on allegations of assaulting a doctor. A case was filed against him, and he was sent to jail through the court.
