54,000 BDT Fined Across 5 Establishments in Chattogram for Glazing Low-Quality Dates with Oil Staff Reporter. CHATTOGRAM: In a shocking crackdown on consumer fraud, a business in Chattogram has been heavily fined for applying unhealthy oil to low-quality dates to make them glossy and attractive to buyers. Alongside this operation, the Directorate of National Consumer Rights Protection (DNCRP) penalized four other establishments for various irregularities and processing food in unsanitary environments. On Tuesday (October 13), Fayez Ullah, the Deputy Director of the Chattogram District DNCRP, led a raid in the city's Folmandi and Dewanhat areas. A total of five institutions were fined 54,000 BDT during the drive. The Shocking Date-Oiling Scam According to the Consumer Rights Directorate, a major violation was uncovered at Tuhin Enterprise in the Folmandi area. The establishment was found packaging ordinary, low-quality dates after coating them with harmful oil under highly unhygienic conditions, completely ignoring packaging regulations. These dates were subsequently sent to the market for sale. For this fraudulent activity, the enterprise was fined 20,000 BDT. Irregularities and Fines at Other Establishments Several other businesses in the Folmandi and Dewanhat areas faced penalties for various violations: Messrs. Rauzan Enterprise: Fined 5,000 BDT. Messrs. Allahwala Enterprise: Fined 2,000 BDT. Messrs. & Brothers: Fined 2,000 BDT. These three businesses were penalized for failing to display price lists and neglecting to maintain proper purchase and sale vouchers or cash memos. Meanwhile, a popular dining establishment in the Dewanhat area, Tayef Restaurant, was raided after authorities confirmed it was processing food in unsanitary conditions and using harmful ingredients, specifically prohibited Shrihat Kashmiri chilli, in its dishes. The restaurant was fined 25,000 BDT for these offenses. Enforcement official Fayez Ullah stated that DNCRP's drives against adulteration and regulatory violations will continue regularly to safeguard public health.
