Attack for obstructing encroachment of Waqf Estate land in Brahmanbaria.

The occupiers have carried out a brutal attack on two leaders of the mosque committee for protesting against the illegal occupation of Waqf Estate and mosque land and the construction of drains and roads without permission in Brahmanbaria. They were severely injured by beating with local weapons and iron rods. At that time, there was an allegation of snatching cash of 2 lakh 10 thousand taka. The incident took place on Tuesday (13 October 2026) at around 12:30 pm on the premises of Abdul Alim Waqf Estate in the West Paikpara area of the city. The injured are Zahirul Islam, Joint General Secretary of Abdul Alim West Paikpara Jame Mosque, and Alamgir Hossain, Secretary of Abdul Alim Waqf Estate. In this incident, the injured Zahirul Islam has filed a written complaint at Brahmanbaria Sadar Model Police Station against 4 persons named and 10/12 more unknown persons. The accused are: Al Mamun Sarkar, Shafiq of West Paikpara area, Titu Mia of West Medda area and Helal of North Poirtala. According to the complaint, from the night of 10 October to the early morning of 11 October, the accused in a pre-planned manner illegally constructed a drainage system for water drainage and a road for movement by dumping sand on the land of the Waqf Estate and Jame Mosque. Seeing the matter, Alamgir Hossain, Secretary of the Estate, filed a written complaint at Sadar Model Police Station on 12 October. The occupiers became angry after hearing the news of filing a complaint at the police station. On Tuesday afternoon, when Zahirul Islam and Alamgir Hossain went to observe the illegal drain and road, the accused suddenly attacked them with sticks, iron rods, pipes and sharp weapons (Ramda). The complaint states that the main accused Al Mamun Sarkar grabbed Zahirul by the throat with the intention of killing him. When he tried to chop his head with a Ramda, he tried to block it with his hand and the bone of his left hand was broken. Later, when he fell to the ground, he was beaten with an iron pipe and 2 lakh taka for buying construction materials from him was snatched away. When Alamgir Hossain came forward to save him, the accused Helal also beat him and injured him and snatched 10 thousand taka. Later, locals rescued them and took them to Brahmanbaria Sadar Hospital. Victim Alamgir Hossain said, "I have been maintaining this Waqf Estate as Secretary for a long time and paying taxes every year. Suddenly I heard that someone is building drains and roads. After filing a complaint at the police station, we were attacked when we went for inspection today." Injured Zahirul Islam said, I am the Joint Secretary of the Waqf Estate. As soon as he saw me, Al Mamun Sarkar said 'Why are you here?' and grabbed my T-shirt collar and dragged me and hacked me with a Ramda. This attack was intended to kill me." In this regard, Sub-Inspector (SI) Sanjib Kumar of Brahmanbaria Police Outpost No. 1 said, "We quickly visited the spot after receiving the news. We have received a written complaint. The matter is under investigation. Legal action will be taken quickly subject to investigation." At present, the victims and members of the mosque committee are suffering from extreme insecurity under threat of death. They have demanded quick arrest and exemplary punishment of the accused.
