Md. Sohel Rana, Rajshahi Correspondent. Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) and Pourashava Administrator Md. Ibnul Abedin has urged everyone to build the habit of regular and proper handwashing to protect their health. He added that alongside ensuring modern toilets and a hygienic environment, it is crucial to focus on personal hygiene. A small habit like handwashing can protect us from many diseases. He made these remarks as the chief guest at a rally and discussion meeting held at the Naohata Pourashava premises in Rajshahi on Thursday (October 15) at 11:30 AM, on the occasion of National Sanitation Month and World Handwashing Day. The event was organized by Naohata Pourashava. Naohata Pourashava Administrator Ibnul Abedin stated that hygienic sanitation systems are improving across the country due to government initiatives. Modern toilets have been constructed in many households as well as in local markets. However, along with infrastructural development, developing personal hygiene habits is equally important for disease prevention. Due to minor negligence, we often overlook the essential practice of handwashing. Highlighting the importance of keeping hands clean, the UNO further noted that regular handwashing can reduce the risk of colds, coughs, diarrhea, and various stomach infections. In this regard, alongside wearing masks during the coronavirus pandemic, regular handwashing played a vital role in preventing the spread of infection. Simply washing hands is not enough; hands must be washed properly using soap or handwash. Children must be taught the habit of washing their hands before eating and after using the toilet. He expressed hope that this event would increase awareness among the people of Paba Upazila regarding handwashing, encouraging everyone to follow this practice in their daily lives. Earlier, a colorful rally was brought out from the Pourashava premises with the theme "Our Hands, Our Future!". After parading the main road, the rally concluded at the same location. The event was attended by Naohata Pourashava BNP President Md. Rafiqul Islam Rafiq, Pourashava Executive Officer Md. Robiul Islam, Medical Officer Dr. Md. Waliul Islam Khan, Accounts Officer Sajjad Hossain, along with other officials and employees of the Pourashava. The day was observed with the support of the City Governance and Infrastructure Development Project.
