Syed Bashir Ahmed, Chief Reporter. The Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) has arrested two individuals in connection with the murder of 16-year-old auto-rickshaw driver Monir Hossain—a crime committed to steal his vehicle—and the subsequent concealment of his body in Raipura, Narsingdi. Based on information provided by the suspects, four batteries from the stolen auto-rickshaw have also been recovered. The arrested individuals are Asad Mia (alias Ershad, 38) and Zahidul Mia (30), both from Raipura, Narsingdi. Dr. S. M. Farhad Hossain, Superintendent of Police for the PBI in Narsingdi district, confirmed these details on Thursday (October 15). He stated that Asad was arrested last Wednesday afternoon from Burujertek in the Ghorashal Bagpara area of Palash Upazila. Acting on information provided by him, Zahidul was subsequently arrested at 12:15 AM on Thursday near the IT Park area, adjacent to Lalmai Bazar in Comilla. According to the PBI, Monir Hossain left home with his auto-rickshaw on the morning of September 25 and never returned. His mobile phone was also found to be switched off. After failing to locate him despite extensive searches, his father, Shah Alam Mia, filed a General Diary (GD) at the Raipura Police Station on September 27. On the morning of October 5, a body was discovered floating among water hyacinths in a wetland (beel) near Dargabari in the Adiyabad Shikdarpara area of Raipura. Upon receiving the information, police and family members arrived at the scene and identified the body as that of Monir. The PBI investigation revealed that Monir was strangled to death using his own trouser belt, with the perpetrators intending to steal his auto-rickshaw—a vehicle valued at approximately 150,000 Taka. The agency further stated that the body was hidden beneath water hyacinths in the wetland in an attempt to conceal the crime. Following this incident, a case was filed at the Raipura Police Station on October 6 against unknown individuals, charging them with murder and the concealment of evidence. Subsequently, the Narsingdi district unit of the Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) took over the investigation. A team led by Police Inspector Shahidul Islam began the inquiry, and later, Sub-Inspector (SI) Md. Ashraf Ali was appointed as the investigating officer for the case. The PBI stated that the arrested suspects have been produced before the court. The investigation is ongoing, and efforts are underway to recover the remaining parts of the auto-rickshaw.
