The Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has seized 99,640 Yaba tablets, estimated to be worth around Tk 2.98 crore, in an operation in Naikhongchhari upazila of Bandarban. The contraband drugs were cleverly hidden inside sacks filled with lemons. However, no one was arrested in connection with the drive.
According to BGB sources, the operation was conducted near the Steel Bridge area adjacent to the Adarshagram Checkpost in Naikhongchhari around 8:30 PM on Wednesday (October 14).
Lieutenant Colonel Md. Foyzul Kabir, Captain of 11 BGB, stated that acting on a tip-off, a patrol team of the BGB took position in the area. During the search of two abandoned sacks filled with lemons left behind under suspicious circumstances, security personnel discovered the Yaba tablets packed inside 10 specially concealed packets. The market value of the seized drugs is estimated at approximately Tk 2,98,92,000.
Sensing the presence of law enforcement officers, the drug traffickers managed to flee the scene, which is why no arrests could be made, the BGB added. Legal procedures regarding the incident are currently underway.
The authorities further stated that BGB's intelligence surveillance and strict operations to curb drug trafficking and smuggling in border areas will continue in the future.
