Non-stick cooking pans, blenders, and kitchen storage racks are everyday household items. Yet, many might never imagine that these mundane objects could conceal gold worth millions. However, this ingenious smuggling method ultimately failed to save Dubai returnee passenger Mohammad Kamrul Islam.
On Sunday morning (October 18), Kamrul Islam was detained with 566 grams of gold during a joint operation by customs and intelligence agencies at Chattogram’s Shah Amanat International Airport.
How He Was Caught
On Sunday morning, when US-Bangla Airlines flight BS-350 from Abu Dhabi landed at Shah Amanat International Airport, Kamrul Islam—a resident of the Dongra area in Banshkhali—appeared just like any other ordinary passenger. However, as soon as he reached the scanning machine at the customs hall, he failed to evade the sharp vigilance of the Directorate General of Forces Intelligence (DGFI).
Subsequently, a joint team comprising the DGFI, NSI, and Customs Intelligence initiated a search of his luggage, which revealed the truth.
Recovered Gold Hidden Inside Cookware and Appliances
Upon conducting a thorough search, intelligence officers recovered the concealed gold consignment ingeniously hidden inside non-stick kitchen pans, a blender machine, and a special utensil storage rack. The seizure includes:
4 Gold Bars: Weighing 466 grams.
Gold Bangle: Weighing 100 grams.
The total weight of the seized gold is 566 grams, with an estimated market value of approximately BDT 1.20 crore (12 million taka).
